MLO 5:Reflective Narrative
This was another easy MLO to complete. I am from Mexico, and I belong to a Spanish speaking culture. I lived in Mexico for twenty one years, and I know many characteristics of my culture. I worked in a government institution for three years where I was in constant contact with poor people of my community: however, I am going to share some of the activities that could fulfill this MLO during the time that I have been here.
I have been working for Cabrillo College for the last eight years as a Math Tutor. I am working in Watsonville where the Hispanic population makes up a significant percent. I have been helping people whose first language is Spanish to understand mathematics concepts and continue with their careers. I believe that all students are able to reach their goals if they have discipline and desire.
I am also part of a theater group in my original town. Every year we perform The Passion of Christ or Semana Santa in Mexico, and I have been director, actor, writer, and staff of scenography. Two years ago I started a group that presents part of the original play in Seaside, CA. I have been involved in this project with the Hispanic community, and I wish to continue doing it.
I also travel to Mexico every year, at least once. I am proud of my origins and my cultural roots. I interact continuously with people of Hispanic heritage because I am one of them; therefore, by the simple fact that I am proudly Mexican, I accomplished this MLO easily.
