MLO 1: Reflective Narrative
The first MLO was one of the
easiest ones to accomplish. I arrived to this country when I was twenty one
years old. I came from Mexico where I studied twelve years: primaria, secundaria
and preparatoria. Since my passion was
always to write short stories, I read a lot of books and novels, and I developed
my reading and writing skills during all those years. Since my first language is Spanish, I can speak
it fluently and am able to understand the main ideas of a conversation.
Even though I was able to fulfill the requirements of the first MLO, my Spanish counselor suggested some classes that could help me in the comprehension and use of my language. Then I took the class Span 302: History/Phonetic Structure Spanish Language to have a better understanding of the structures of my language and its historic origins. This course helped me to explore the world of the phonetics roots of my language and the influence that other cultures have had in the Spanish language in a varietyof periods. We discovered the evolution of our language starting with the romances, and going through the influences of different cultures, such as the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, and Native American all the way up our modern Spanish language. The course explains the phonology and morphology structures that help us to have a wider understanding of our language.
